The MISSION OF OAKLAND CITY CHORUS is to provide rewarding musical and educational experiences for singers and audiences alike in the greater Oakland/East Bay Area. We perform a full range of music, from early music to contemporary compositions, as well as spirituals and world music. Our singers, who come from diverse backgrounds and all regions of the East Bay Area, are dedicated to offering the highest caliber performances for audiences at reasonable prices.
Director John Reager teaches Music History, Music Skills (solfege, dictation, and ear-training), and directs the Oakland City Chorus at Laney College. He holds two Master of Music degrees in Vocal Performance and Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He studied conducting with David Conte, Anthony Pasqua, and Sonja Neblit. He was an AGMA tenor and soloist for eight seasons with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus and has directed numerous choirs. He is published by G.I.A. Publications in Chicago and on cpdl.org and is a member of ASCAP.
Dale Tsang, Pianist, is currently a faculty member at Diablo Valley College, Laney College, and accompanies the Oakland City Chorus. She earned her BM from the University of Southern California, studying with Professor John Perry, her MM at the University of Michigan, studying with Dickran Atamian, and her DMA from Rice University, studying with Professor John Perry. She won first place in the 2001 Carmel Music Society Competition. She was a solo-round competitor in the 1997 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and a semi-finalist in the 1999 Washington International Competition, and has taken numerous other prizes. In 2015, she was our soloist for Beethoven’s Choral Fantasia, which we performed with Oakland Civic Orchestra. In 2016 she performed Mendelssohn’s Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra, also with OCO.
